Fuglesteg
Experience one of the Norwegian bigest culture treasures. Fuglesteg is laying on a mountain rock approx 5 km from the centre of Skjolden, appr. 630 m.o.s.

The mainbuilding on the farm is recently renovated of the Norwegian Tourist Assosiation and is one of the rare and few stonehouses in Norway built in two plan floors.

The mountain farm was built in 1830 of Sylfest Ormeli, who was carrying stones to the house project in five years before he told his wife of his building project. The house have a lenght on 15 meters and a width on 8 meters in two plan floors. The walls have a thickness on more than one meter. Soil was used in the walls for doing the building cool in the hot summers and had normal insulation in the winter.

Both the farmhouse and cow/ goathouse burnt down in 1985. Only the thick walls was left. During few winters the walls also were damaged because of ice and humidity. But in year 2000 the local tourist assosiation started the project to renovate the unique buildings. The got economical help from the investor Olav Thon, Luster kommune and from the County Govemor. In 2006 the main building was finished after using appr 2500 hours of voluntariness work of local peoples.

The place in now included in Norwegian Tourist Assosiations path network. Inside the house there is 23 bed and its possible to stay overnight by agreement.

Our trip to Fuglesteg starts at the Fjordstova in centre of Skjolden. There you will get free transport to Fortun/ or using own car. From Fortun we will walk the whole way up. It takes 2-3 hours.
