The heart of the Moerkrid Valley, Fishing or Walking Tour

We offer hiking/ walking tours with or without fishing possibilities to the"The Heart of the Moerkrid Valley". The tours will be adjusted to your wishes and are made for the whole family. The tour with fishing (for great mountain trout ) or the tour without fishing are both great experiences. Fishing skills is not necessary, and we will help you learning the basic to getting fish in this beatiful culture landscape. During the trip you will also get information about the local history from the guide/ the great fisher :). Description: First we make an agreement  with you for what kind of trip you want, amount of person, age, meal etc. and price. It can be done latest the day before per telephone or visit. As early as possible in beforehand it is the best, and than its easier to meet and plan your wishes. Meeting point for departures is on/ outside the Fjordstova building in the centre of Skjolden. Here you will also get a short briefing of the tours and check of the equipment. Afterwards you will get free transport of us to the parking lot in the Moerkrid Valley T/R,- or you choose to drive after us with your own car (appr. 10 km). From here the tour goes on foot (remember good footwear and suitable clothes). After approx 40 minute, we will come the Storatjødni (the Big Pond), which is an idyllic small lake. Here we take a short break, drinking water from the lake or  trying some fishing in a few minute, before the trip goes through a unique  talus and a virgin forest with conifer trees. The talus was made in the ice age appr.15000 years ago. After walking for 15-20 minutes from the small lake, the silence will be replaced of a weak sound of a waterfall. It is the sound of the Bøli Waterfall (the picture at top)and we will meet the Mørkrid River again. We can here fish on different places and we will stop on the sand bank next to the waterfall. After enought fishing here,  we can here eat some food (meal not included, but can be made by agreement).  In this special surroundings deers and other animals often come down to the river in the morning for drinking fresh water. Some peoples have also seen Wood Nymphs and trolls not far away from here. But we will take care of you, so don`t be afraid:) From the Bøli Waterfall we have two choises, we can either go to the mountain dairy farm Knivabakkli and fish more there (appr 30 min walk from Bøli) and go back the same path as we went earlier or we go throught the untouched nature in the Dulsetehaugen (Dulsete Hill), to the dairy farm Dulsete on the other side of the river. If we decide Dulsete (appr. 30 min walk from Bøli), we can fish in the Tudnia fishing place (the name says that the water goes in circles) or we just take a look at the old buldings there. Afterward we walks throught the Tjødnaholet (The hole of the ponds). The nature is very rich here with vegetables that you only find here in Norway - they says ( botanical rich). There is no fish in the small ponds here before we meet the Storatjødni pond again, but the nature is a great experience by itselves. When we arrive the pond Storatjødni again, its possible to fish on different places. The trout can be up to 700 grams here, but normal is around 300 grams. When everyone is satified and have enjoyed the trip we walk down to the Hødnevollen parking lot (Mørkrid) and drive back to Skjolden. Fishing license (for 16 years age) must be bought beforehand in Skjolden. We can help you with that and it costs kr 100 for the cheapest (which is valid for three days) Total duration: 4 - 6 hours. Pricelist >> Booking >> Other fishingtrips There are many good fishing lakes in the surroundings in the Mørkrid and Fortun Valleys. One of the most used is the Åsetelake (picture down to the right). You can walk to that lake on foot in 2-3 hours from an other parking lot in Mørkrid. The fishing lisence includes free use of a rowing boat in max. 2 hrs. There is also good chances to catch fishes when not using boat, but using a fishing rod or an otter board etc. It is not unusual to catch mountain trout here on one kilo. The fish have read colored meat. We can also arrange tours to here if planned in good time in beforehand f.ex. daytrips or with stay overnights in hut/ tent etc. for one/ two nights. Just contact us for wishes! Fishing for seatrout in the lower part over the Mørkrid/ Fortun river can also be de done throught us, but have to be clarified first with the owners.
